*ENGLISH
Characterized by an unusual mixture of architectural styles, the Chinese Palazzina was designed by G. Venanzio Marvuglia and built in 1799 according to the taste of the “chinoiseries” of the turn of the century. It was commissioned by King Ferdinand III of Bourbon who stayed there for a long time during the forced residence in Sicily.
The sovereign hosted several friends and among the illustrious and admired guests of this building, Admiral Nelson and Lady Hamilton should be mentioned.
It is characterized by a peculiar and successful combination of the neoclassical taste of the second floor columns and the medieval flavor of the ground floor gothic arches, pointing out a clear and systematic search for the most peculiar bizarre Chinese elements and motifs, from which the distinguishing name Palazzina Cinese derives.
In the dining room of the building there is the so-called ” Mathematical Table”. It is a table that through a wooden mechanism delivers the dishes directly to the table. This mechanism guaranteed that the Royals could eat their meals in tranquillity and with greater intimacy.
Currently the Chinese Palazzina houses a collection of Chinese prints, furniture and oriental silk.
Next to it, Villa Niscemi, Pitrè Museum and the park of the “Città dei Ragazzi” make the visit of the place more interesting.
