Since last July, the UNESCO Committee added the Norman-Arab tour of Palermo and Monreale to the list of World Heritage sites. From 30th to 31st August you can discover the artistic and architectural features of this period of history in a walking tour with the support of specialized escort guides.
Departure at 9:00 from Piazza Vincenzo Bellini, where you can visit the churches of St. Mary’s (also known as Martorana) and San Cataldo. We continue along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the old Palermo street once called ‘Cassaro’ by the Arabs, until you reach the majestic Cathedral. After the visit we headed to St. John of the Hermits, famous for its red domes. Eventually, in Independence Square we are going to see the enormous Royal Palace and, inside, the Norman-Arabian jewel par excellence: Palatine Chapel, a royal chapel commissioned by Roger II, famous for its wonderful Byzantine mosaics.
The tour ends around noon when we return to Piazza Bellini.
