In 1330 the Palace was built by the feudal lord Matteo Sclafani to overcome in beauty Palazzo Chiaramonte, owned by the brother-in-law Manfredi.
The building displays elegant mullioned windows and above the entrance door it is still admirable a niche with The Sclafanis’ weapons, surmounted by an eagle created by Bonaiuto Pisano.
In the 15th century, under the Spanish dominion, the Palace was transformed into a hospital by Ven. Fra Giuliano Majali and maintained this function until 1852 when it was used as a barracks. The original construction, over the centuries, has been significantly modified. Currently the Palace houses the Southern Military Region Command.
The famous “Triumph of Death”, exhibited at Palazzo Abatellis, comes from the courtyard of Palazzo Sclafani.
