    Nato agli inizi del secolo scorso nel ridotto del teatro Politeama, il museo dal 2006 ha trasferito la sua sede all’interno del complesso monumentale di sant’Anna. Nelle sale della nuova sede si trovano più di duecento opere tra pitture e sculture, suddivise in quattordici sezioni tematiche e monografiche che illustrano il percorso delle arti figurative in Italia tra otto e novecento, a testimonianza del ruolo che pittori e scultori di rilievo nazionale hanno assunto nelle vicende della Palermo modernista.

    Tra i più grandi capolavori: le grandi tele di formato monumentale di Giuseppe Sciuti, i paesaggi di Francesco Lojacono, il naturalismo di Antonio Leto, i rimandi art nouveau di Ettore de Maria Bergler, il gusto scintillante e luministico di Giovanni Boldini e la densa stagione del novecento, testimoniata da autori come Massimo Campigli, Felice Casorati, Mario Sironi, Renato Guttuso, Franz von Stuck, che ci restituiscono le atmosfere e le suggestioni di una moderna capitale europea.

    Founded at the beginning of the last century in the foyer of the Politeama theatre, in 2006 the museum moved to the monumental complex of Sant’Anna. In the rooms of the new building there are more than two hundred works including paintings and sculptures, divided into fourteen thematic and monographic sections that illustrate the path of the figurative arts in Italy between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, testifyng to the role that painters and sculptors of national importance played in the history of Modernist Palermo.

    Among the greatest masterpieces: the large monumental canvases by Giuseppe Sciuti, the landscapes by Francesco Lojacono, the naturalism of Antonio Leto, the art nouveau references of Ettore de Maria Bergler, the sparkling and luminous taste of Giovanni Boldini and the dense season of the twentieth century, witnessed by authors such as Massimo Campigli, Felice Casorati, Mario Sironi, Renato Guttuso, Franz von Stuck, who give us back the atmosphere and suggestions of a modern European capital.
