L’impianto originario del Castello di Cefalà Diana sembra risalire all’epoca greca mentre l’attuale struttura può essere collocata tra la seconda metà del XIII secolo e l’inizio del XIV secolo per poi subire nei corsi del trecento e quattrocento modifiche e restauri. Fu edificato solo per funzioni strategiche e militari, dalla sua posizione particolare, garantiva un controllo generale riguardo la viabilità fra Palermo e l’interno cerealicolo della Val di Mazara. I ruderi del castello sono sovrastati da una grandiosa torre quadrangolare. Da alcuni documenti patrimoniali risulta che già dopo il 1093 il bene passò in possesso feudale a Nicolò Abate, col titolo di Baronia. Nel 1300 il Castello e il feudo passarono come proprietà acquisite alla famiglia Chiaramonte che ne mantenne il possedimento per parecchi anni.

The original plant of the Castello di Cefalà Diana can be dated back to the Greek era, while the present structure can be dated between the second half of the 13th and the beginning of the 14th century but then the castle underwent changes and restorations between the14th and the 15th century. It was built only for strategic and military functions: thanks to its particular position it guaranteed a general control over the viability between Palermo and the interior cereal production area of Val di Mazara. The castle ruins are overlooked by a grand quadrangular tower. It is apparent from some of the documents that after 1093 the property passed to Nicolò Abate like feudal possession with the title of Baronia. In 1300 the Castle and the feud passed to the Chiaramonte family that kept them for several years.
